Sussex Police Authority
Appointment of Four Independent Members
The Sussex Police Authority is inviting applications from people who are interested in being appointed as an independent member of the Authority, which covers the Sussex Police area.
There are four appointments to be made - three independent members will take office from 1 October 2008 and one from 18 December 2008, and all four members will serve until 31 March 2013. At least one of these vacancies must be filled by a Lay Justice for an area covered by the Police Authority.
Members are expected to keep abreast of national and local developments affecting policing; represent the Authority in the community; participate in public consultation; attend meetings of the Authority and its committees and working groups; work in partnership with the Police and the local community; and take a keen interest in aspects of policing.
We are looking for people who have a genuine interest in policing and the delivery of high quality service and performance and will represent the interests of the wide range of people within Sussex. This includes people with the ability to represent a broad range of local communities in Sussex.
A minimum commitment of about 7 hours a week is required. You must aged over 18, live or work in the Police Authority area comprising the Counties of East Sussex and West Sussex and the City of Brighton and Hove (and have done so for at least 12 months prior to appointment), and not be otherwise disqualified from appointment. The Police Authority firmly supports a policy of equal opportunities and, therefore, welcomes applications from all eligible people, irrespective of gender, ethnic origin, religious belief, sexual orientation, disability or any other irrelevant factor.
