Sussex Police Authority -
Web Site Accessibility
The Sussex Police Authority website has been developed with you in mind. We have made every effort to make it accessible to all our visitors regardless of browser, platform or Internet connection speed.
Standards Compliance
All areas of the site, except the members only area, comply with Level AAA (the highest level) of the World Wide Web Consortium Web Accessibilty Initiative Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 to promote accessibility, compatibility and interoperability.
The Authority's Web site follows the W3C recommendations for Extensible HyperText Markup Language 1.0 and Cascading Style Sheets 2. In both cases (XHTML and CSS), the markup of all pages is valid.
Access Keys
"Access keys" have been included to assist users with disabilities when navigating their way through the web site. Essentially keyboard shortcuts, access keys provide quick and easy access to common pages without the need for a mouse.
Windows based computers
Pressing "ALT" and the access key will give focus to that specific
link on the page. If you press return, you will then be taken to that page.
Macintosh based computers
Pressing "CTRL" and the access key will automatically send you
to that specific page.
In line with the Guidelines for UK Government Websites produced by the Office of the e-Envoy, this site defines the following access keys:
access key 1 (ALT+1) - home page
access key s (ALT+S) - skip main navigation links (in certain browsers)
access key 3 (ALT+3) - site map
access key 4 (ALT+4) - search facility
access key 9 (ALT+9) - feedback
access key 0 (ALT+0) - accessibility statement
Text Only
Click on the Text Only link on any page to start viewing our pages as text only. If you want to stop using the facility at any stage, there is a link at the top and bottom of every page to return to the graphics version.
Increasing Text Size
Some users might find screen text easier to read by increasing the size at which text is displayed. To do this you should simply adjust your browser's settings.
If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer, go to the View menu, select Text Size and then either Larger or Largest.
If you use Netscape Navigator, go to the View menu and choose Increase Font until the text is the size you require.
Downloading Files
All downloadable material on the Authority website is available in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). In order to view these files, you will require Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free utility available for download from the Adobe website.
