Dr Sue Iles-Jonas
Magistrate Member
Dr Sue Iles-Jonas has been a Sussex magistrate for 17 years and currently works as a consultant and writer. Previously Sue worked as a researcher in the Home Office Research and Planning Unit, where she specialised in and published research into community policing, community development projects and public perceptions of police performance. She was also seconded to Hackney's Borough Council's Police Committee Support Unit to conduct research work on issues relating to the relationship between the police and the local community.
Sue has an MA in the Sociology of Deviance and a Ph.D in Criminology.
She was appointed to the Police Authority in 2004 and is the vice-chairman
of the Planning and Performance Steering Group, a member of the Chief Officers'
Appointments and Remuneration Committee and represents the Authority on
Police Appeal Tribunals and the PFI Board. Sue also has Lead Member responsibilities
for Criminal Justice.
