Peter Jones
Councillor Member
Born in Birmingham, Peter was brought up in Yorkshire and is a graduate of Strathclyde University in Economics and Economic History.
He retired from the City in 1995 after a career in stockbroking and merchant banking. In 1997 Peter was elected as a County Councillor for Rye in East Sussex. He was elected Leader of East Sussex County Council in 2001 and again in 2005, he is also Lead Member for Economic Regeneration.
In addition to his responsibilities at East Sussex County Council and Sussex Police Authority, Peter is also a Board Member of both the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) and the Audit Commission; and a Director of Seaspace (the company responsible for ensuring delivery of a major regeneration project in Hastings and Bexhill). Peter's interests include: Politics; Wine; Walking; and Boules/Petanque.
Peter was Chairman of the Authority from 2005 to 2007 and is also a member of the Planning and Performance Steering Group, Chief Officers' Appointments and Remuneration Committee and the Joint Liaison and Consultative Committee. Peter also represents the Police Authority on the South East Policing Alliance, Rother Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and has Lead Member responsibilities for Press and Public Relations.
